Baseball Scorecards

These scorecards are compiled from ideas I got from looking at many defferent designs. I have to give most of the credit to Christopher Swingley (swingleydev.com), who's design these cards are primarily based on. In keeping with the GNU spirit, I have included InDesign Interchange files (created from version CS4, so should work in CS3 or 4) for those who want to tweak them. You will need Helvetica which I can not distribute for obvious legal reasons. Also available are PDFs.

Printing Instructions: These scorecards are designed to be printed double sided (douplex) on 11x17 paper, and then bound. The inside borders are larger to accommodate for the binding. I chose 11x17 because it accommodates more innings and substitutions.

Features: Due to the larger paper size, these scorecards can accommodate up to 16 innings of play. However, the innings are not numbered incase a team bats around and you need to use two (or more...God forbid) columns for one inning. There is room for 9 lineup spots plus an additional 3 substitutions for the first 8 and 7 substitutions for the nine spot (definitely needed in some NL games). I designed two different versions. One for "beginners" and one for "advanced" scorers. The main difference is that the beginner's version does not have a pitch count section or an outfield wall diagram. Also, it has fewer stats on the front cover. The advanced version has on it's cover sections for a box score, umpires, attendance, weather, first pitch time, last play time, game duration, pre and post game standings, and out of town game results in order to fully chronicle the significance of the game scored.

Scoring Instructions: I've used many systems but a few years ago I adopted the one from Christopher Swingley's web site almost verbatim. It's very complete and makes it easy to recount the events of a game. I suggest you check out his scoring guide, in which he shows how to score the game in 1998 when Mark McGwire hit homerun #62.
